Is Summer Over Already?

Where has the time gone?  We cannot believe it is the end of August already!  Time has flown by so fast...summer is almost over and pumpkin season is around the bend!
Blog updates have gotten way behind, as you can tell!

Our garden has been going well.  It is a constant job of weeding, planting, harvesting . . . the list goes on and on.  As is every farmer's experience, some things do great and some things don't do as well.  We are still learning more and more each day about what we can do better.  Our produce overall has been good this season.  We have lost some produce due to weather or other reasons, but it has been a good growing season for the most part.  We are working on getting more plantings in the ground that will be ready in the next couple of weeks, or will continue to produce in the cooler temperatures.

Our "hottest" item has been our salad mix!  At every market, this is our first item to sell out of!  MANY ask for it specifically each week and tell us it is the best they have ever had!  We have not had any to sell for the past several weeks (HOT weather and salad don't always MIX).  However, it is on its way.  Our newest plantings will be ready for harvest
the first of September.
Be sure to stop by and see us at Avon or Greencastle Farmer's Markets and try some!

We were so excited to pick up another farmer's market in Avon on Tuesdays!!  This was a direct answer to our prayers and such a neat story.  We were looking for another opportunity to sell our produce other than just at the market in Greencastle.   We applied for the Avon market and learned that all the produce spots were filled.  But if we would like, we could be a substitute for a seasonal vendor that would not be able to attend the market any week of the season. We agreed to be a substitute and were told that we would most likely know a week ahead of time if we were needed.  The first market of the season for Avon was June 7, and we received a call around 11:30am that morning saying they had a spot open for that evening if we would like to sub.  Well, if anyone knows how markets work, vendors must arrive an hour before the actual market time and be set up 15 minutes prior to start.  At the time we received the call, we had exactly two hours to wash, bundle and bag produce as well as load the truck.  It seemed like bedlam for those couple hours, but we made it to Avon with time to spare!

We were so amazed at how well that market went!  We thought we were going to have to set up a sold out sign with two hours still to go in the market!

During the market, the market manager came to us and told us that there might be an available permanent spot for us, she just had to check with one other vendor.
By the end of that market, we left as season vendors!!
God works in such amazing ways, that we cannot even fathom.
We have enjoyed the Avon markets and it has been such a good experience!

Come visit us on Tuesdays in Avon from 4-7pm!! We would love to see you!
We are selling our produce on Saturdays as well in Greencastle from 8am-12pm. Market season will come to a close in about another month, so be sure to come see us soon!

The pumpkin patch is coming along nicely and the plants look good. It's crazy to think that pumpkin patch season is only about a month away!  Our You Pick Patch will be opening just as our Farmer's Markets are ending for the season.

Our ducks have grown tremendously and are an enjoyment! Their voices have changed from those little cheeps to loud honks!  They were moved out behind the barn into an old pen for more room, and they love it.  It is so neat to see them splash in their little kiddie pool we have provided for them and play and clean themselves.  When we let them out to roam around the yard, they all waddle around together as a group!  They are so different from the chickens.

Our goat, Sabrina, is doing well.  We were able to breed her, so we are already drawing near to the time when we will have a little kid (or kids!).  She hopefully will give birth
around mid to late September, right in time for pumpkin patch season!  "Midwife" Emilie is quite excited about the upcoming event.  She has been assembling her "midwifery" kit and preparing herself with great advice from all of the experts!

We apologize for the lack in updates, but just bear with us as we draw closer to pumpkin patch time!  We will hopefully keep you posted on when we will officially open this pumpkin patch season, and as other updates come along.
