Jonathan Byrd, American Revolutionary Patriot

Picture
Located on our property, just up the hill from our pumpkin patch, we are privileged to have a Revolutionary patriot buried there. We have dubbed the hill with a name, "Byrd Hill". When people visit our pumpkin patch during the month of October they are allowed to visit the hill and see the place there this patriot was buried.
When we moved to our place in 2000, we were told that Mr. Byrd was buried on our property. Since then we have had some visitors come and see the gravesite and as time goes on, we try to learn more and more about who he actually was.
The Sons of the American Revolution placed and dedicated a grave marker at the site on July 18, 1976. Many descendants were present at this ceremony. This year, 2013, we were blessed to be able to met some of Jonathan's descendants.

In August, we were paid a visit from Dr. Sherman Byrd, Richard Byrd, William Byrd, and Rudy Burd, pictured in the photo above. They advised us that Jonathan fought in the war along side of General George Washington. They also said that Jonathan was a captain in the war, and that he lived in Virginia, moved to Kentucky and then to Indiana. He was married to Rachel Sweet and had three children: Abraham, James and Rachel. There are at least five rocks placed in the ground around the Jonathan's marker. These are believed to be places where the relatives of Jonathan Byrd are also buried. Jonathan died October 4th, 1827.
